Easily configure LuckPerms & TAB!

When configuring LuckPerms for your server, managing ranks, permissions, and prefixes should be straightforward! Here is a guide on how to set up permissions, prefixes, and TAB menu formatting.

~ How to configure Permissions, Ranks & Prefixes:

Disclaimer: Ensure you have LuckPerms, Vault, and a chat/tab plugin (such as TAB or EssentialsXChat) installed on your server, as LuckPerms stores prefix data while third-party plugins display it in chat and the TAB list.

Step 1. Join your Minecraft server or access your server console. Ensure you have OP or full LuckPerms administrative access.

Step 2. Type /lp editor in-game (or lp editor in console) and press Enter. Click the web editor link generated in chat.

Step 3. On the web editor panel, navigate to the Groups tab on the left sidebar to create or edit ranks (e.g., default, vip, admin).

Step 4. Select a group and add permission nodes in the input box at the bottom (e.g., essentials.fly, minecraft.command.tp). Click + Add. -- IMPORTANT! Pay attention to true/false nodes. Setting a node to false revokes that specific permission! BE CAREFUL!

Step 5. To set a rank prefix, go to the group's permissions list, or run the command directly in-game: /lp group <group_name> meta addprefix <weight> "<prefix_text>" (Example: /lp group admin meta addprefix 100 "&c[Admin] ") (Note: A higher weight number gives the prefix higher priority over other groups!)

Step 6. Assign players to their respective groups using the command: /lp user <username> parent add <group_name>

Step 7. Click Save in the top-right corner of the LuckPerms Web Editor, copy the generated command, and paste it into your server chat to apply all changes instantly.

Step 8. Done! That simple :)

~ How to configure the In-Game TAB Menu:

Disclaimer: LuckPerms handles the backend data, but you need a dedicated tablist plugin like TAB (by NEZNAMY) or EssentialsX to render prefixes in the player list.

Step 1. Download and drop the TAB plugin (and PlaceholderAPI for extra placeholders) into your server's plugins folder, then restart your server.

Step 2. Open your server's plugins/TAB/config.yml file using your server panel's File Manager or SFTP.

Step 3. Locate the tablist-name-formatting or header-footer section.

Step 4. Configure group formatting so TAB reads LuckPerms prefixes automatically.

4.1. Set change-nametags and enable under tablist formatting to true. 4.2. Use the %luckperms_prefix% or %vault_prefix% placeholders in the player display format string. 4.3. Adjust sorting weights in the TAB config so higher-ranked staff appear at the top of the TAB menu.

Step 5. Save the configuration file.

Step 6. In-game, run /tab reload to apply the changes without restarting the server.

Step 7. Press Tab in-game to verify that player ranks, prefixes, and colors display correctly!

Step 8. Done!
