What is ViaVersion?

ViaVersion translates network traffic between Minecraft versions. Your server keeps its version, while players on newer or older versions can still join.

Getting Started & Installation

1. Go to Minecraft, and then go to the "Spigot Plugins" or "Modrinth Mods" depending on your server software.
2. Search for "ViaVersion" and install the latest version.
3. Restart your server so it loads.

Allowing Older Clients (Optional)

ViaVersion lets newer clients join an older server. To let older clients join a NEWER server, add:

• ViaBackwards: lets older versions join newer servers.
• ViaRewind: adds support for very old versions (1.7-1.8).

Install these the same way, then restart.

Joining

There's nothing to configure. Players launch their version, enter your server address and join.

Important Considerations

• Version Features: A player on an older version won't see newer blocks or features. That's normal.
